Who would believe that someone with a home-based business can reach out to a far away country and work with a client via a Blackberry and a cell phone? That is exactly what I did last month with a man in Israel who was going to interview there. And, he not only got the job, but he was able to negotiate a higher salary after our work together.

The business of coaching in general is quietly taking over the $427 Billion home-business sector by storm. If you are interested in getting in on this wave you will first need to find a niche. A niche that will satisfy your needs – where you can make a difference and some good money at the same time.

My niche is Interview Coaching, which is my way to connect with people all over the United States and beyond. To be able to reach out and help someone – and to be appreciated is what my business is about. Can you think of a better way to make a living?

You might think that just anyone could hang advertise themselves as an Interview Coach. In reality they can do that, but that doesn’t mean they have what it takes to do a good job for their clients or themselves.

Here’s a little quiz to determine if this might be a niche for you to explore further.

__ I am an excellent listener

You should be able to really “hear” people when they talk. You can pick up on hidden things they’re saying if you read between the lines.

__ I am good at “reading” people –

Some people say they are “people persons” but they don’t know how to look beyond what is on the surface. That’s a special gift that will make you very successful at this business.

__ I have great communication skills

Good communication skills begin with listening and then letting the person know that they have been heard. It is also adjusting your communication level to match the person you are talking to – whether it is with an executive or a laboratory assistant.

__ I am patient and will take time to explain what needs to change

Some people do not have the patience to listen to a long story or to have to explain something over in several different ways to get the point across.

__ I am capable of giving straight forward feedback

How do you tell someone that they aren’t doing something affectively? You give straight-forward facts that are sometimes difficult to say. Not giving honest advice will take away from the value of your coaching.

__ I would make a great teacher/coach

If you are starting out, you have to determine if you want to spend time with people teaching them new skills and techniques that will make a difference in their lives.

__ I have patience and good customer service skills

Sometimes people change their minds, cancel appointments, don’t show up for appointments. It’s all part of having a business. Your customer service policy will be of your own choosing and values.

__ I’m good at figuring out problems

This is the most exciting part of interview coaching. To ask the questions and find out what is going on. Asking many questions and listening and reading between the lines will give you clues to helping the person succeed.

__ I want to make a difference

You’ve come to the right place. You can help people change their lives. You can help them to be more competitive in the job market. You can show them that they have power in the interview process.

__ I’m good at giving motivational reinforcement

After you’ve given them the straight-forward feedback you will have to work to build their esteem back to a place where they will appreciate they have something to offer.

How many checks were you able to put on the list? If you have six out of the ten skills required – or higher – this may be a place for you to explore.

Being an interview coach offers new challenges and the chance to play many roles during a single day. The roles may vary with each client. The clients are all different –people in transition, or up for an internal promotion, or changing fields, or young people entering the work force. And, don’t forget the “walking wounded” – who have been laid off, or fired.. These people need help – they need encouragement – they need caring for.

What is life after all if it isn’t about making a difference? You can make a difference in your own life as well as other peoples’ lives - over, and over, and over – extending all over the world. You can make a difference as an Interview Coach.

Let us teach you how to be successful!

By the time a woman reaches her midlife she has shed many of the idealistic and romantic notions that her previous goals and dreams were founded on. The middle years can bring unwelcome revelations about a woman’s marriage or relationships, health, career path, spirituality and overall personal development. So it’s not too surprising that seeking success in midlife is both a touchy subject and a hot topic.

While you may not be convinced that all the symptoms of middle age are to be enjoyed, there is reason for a positive outlook. If you look you’ll find significant scientific and anecdotal evidence supporting the fact that the midlife years can be used for unusual personal growth and development. “In a 1997 survey by the North American Menopause Society, more than half of American women aged forty-five to sixty viewed menopause as the beginning of a new and fulfilling stage of life.” Women who tend to feel successful during the midlife years are those who are able to use their struggles as an impetus for change.

·	Transforming Struggles into Success in Midlife

From menopause to illness and death, midlife tends to pile on the responsibilities and burdens. This happens at a time when many women expect to be enjoying greater freedom and rewards for their years of hard work. For instance, your own experience may seem to suggest that life is just a struggle and you need to accept it.

Yes, life is hard. But successful midlife women find a way to use their struggles to better their lives. The first step is to acknowledge and accept fully your discontent. Then start turning to what would make you smile. It could mean a new and more fulfilling career, a better relationship, better physical condition or an improved financial state.

·	Defining Success for Women in Midlife

Success-coaches find that most women know exactly what they don’t want in their lives: e.g., poverty, loneliness, illness. However the key to building a successful midlife experience is to invest fully in gaining with full clarity and detail the vision you want to create.

Coaching women through midlife has become one of the fastest growing careers because permanent change is so hard to implement. Just think of how many struggle and fail trying to lose weight, manage money or start exercising. When a woman seeking success in midlife employs a life coach to guide her they both will need to take some very specific steps regardless of the individual journey.

Since all permanent change is rooted in your underlying beliefs you must be willing to examine your preconceived notions about your self and the world. For instance, if your mother raised you to believe that a healthy woman “has a little meat on her bones” your attempts to lose weight are combated by your subconscious believing that that is an unwise move. We are full of beliefs that don’t serve us. Most of us cannot see ourselves without bias, which is why a life coach can add clarity and perspective to this process.

Once you have identified your coach she needs to have the resources to help you rewire key thoughts so you won’t recreate the past. Also from your dreams and list of “wants” for your life, you need to dig deep to find out what the best idea of your life purpose is. What goals would be in line with this life purpose? Then you and your coach will need to outline an action based on achieving those goals. Finally, you will embark on the journey with your coach guiding, prompting and helping you along the way.

·	Build a Community for Success in Midlife

The concept of a life coach really goes back centuries. They were referred to as wise elders and given much respect. We have lost that tribal connection, and women need to build community and seek out mentors in other ways. One of the benefits of choosing a life coach is that you can seek out someone who has already been down the path that you are traveling and can point out both barriers and shortcuts to midlife success.

In addition, you can look for or create a support group of midlife women within your community, church or other organization. Having other women who intend to create the best opportunity for themselves in their present challenges are good to have on your side. Mastermind groups as described by Napoleon Hill in Think and Grow Rich are a specific form of a support group.

The challenges of the midlife years can be seen as a wake-up call. Stop to take a long look at your life and the path you are traveling. Remember Lao-tsu said: “If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.”

Your struggles can be transformed into the power to pave a new path that leads toward a more fulfilling future. Midlife offers a huge opportunity if you are willing to invest in you and adopt new ways of thinking.

Are You Looking For A Realistic $250K First Year Income Potential?

Wake up! Your life is amazing. Your life is filled with good fortune. But The Drunk Monkey has no interest in that conversation. The Drunk Monkey’s job is to seek out what might go wrong and fix it or avoid it. You’ve been relying on your mind for success and happiness, and that’s like relying on the Head of the Secret Police to give you a motivational pep talk, and convince you that the world is a wonderful place to life…your talking to the wrong person!

Here is the number one problem with relying on The Drunk Monkey for success and happiness…By focusing on what’s wrong you create more of it. Say it: I become what I think about all the time. Thoughts become things. What I think about expands. As you continue to move forward…powerfully…practicing the techniques of Being Unstoppable, you will increasingly become aware of just how unbelievably awesome your life is.

As you continue to move forward…powerfully…practicing the techniques of Being Unstoppable, you will increasingly become aware of just how unbelievably awesome your life is. That’s the trick, to become aware.

As you continue to move forward…powerfully…practicing the techniques of Being Unstoppable, you will increasingly become aware of just how unbelievably awesome your life is.

** So step into that prosperity flow today. Start by noticing how amazing your life already is. If you are having trouble…type the word poverty into google and click on images. Quickly you will realize that your life is opulent, extravagant, and extraordinary. 78% of the population lives in poverty. You have a computer! The fact that you are reading this right now, tells me you are living in the minority.

Look around today. Notice all that you have. Notice all the stuff. Notice all the abundance. From there, notice how many good things happen to you. Recount all the good fortune you have had today. Spend the whole day contemplating that. Notice it. Notice what an amazing life you have.

Wealth Builders!

It might sound funny at first to have a life coach. I mean, everyone lives their lives from day to day. Why on

earth would you need a “coach” to make it through? The point is not just making it through life. Rather, it

has much more to do with actually getting something out of life, fulfilling yourself and enjoying every minute

of life you get to experience.

In order to make the most of your years here on earth, you should really consider the services of a life

coach. Why, you may be asking? The following listing of benefits should help you understand just why life

coaching is vital to your happiness and success in all that you pursue.

Life Coaches Listen

A life coach is much like a therapist, in a way, because they are hired to listen to you. However, a life coach

is much more intent on actively helping you change your life for the better and moving forward, rather than

dwelling on the past. A life coach is great because he or she is paid to listen to you. Unlike a friend, you do

not have to reciprocate. This is a one-sided relationship all in your favor.

Life Coaches Keep You Focused

Life coaching can help you stay on the path you wish to stay on in life. For many people, it is difficult to

actively pursue their goals. With a life coach, you will be pushed to complete the tasks you wish to

complete. Rather than relying on your own gumption, you will have the external pressure of a life coach to

push you in the direction you want to go. It’s an extremely helpful method of creating goals and sticking to

them.

Life Coaches Always Tell the Truth

Unlike friends in your life, a life coach will always tell you the truth about yourself. Don’t expect to be

pandered or to be told what you want to hear by a life coach. That’s what the other people in your life are

for. A life coach can provide you with an objective view of yourself and your life. This is very beneficial when

you are facing tough decisions or trying to make excuses to get out of a tough situation.

Life Coaches Help You Overcome Obstacles

If you are facing obstacles in your life, a life coach can help build you up and overcome them. Whether it is

weaknesses, fears or bad habits, a life coach can teach you to reach down deep in order to harness the

strength you didn’t know you had.

Create Success!

A coach is someone who helps clients discover his dreams and goals, his values, his priorities and his boundaries. A coach rarely offers advice on what to do; her role is to lead the client to identify the problem, the options and to choose a solution. A coach asks questions ‘ especially the tough ones. What are you afraid of? Who is waiting for you? What is it that you don’t want to tell me?

A coach is on the journey with the client sharing victories, experiencing challenges, resourcing solutions together.

As the teacher, or the coach, you also have to be a student. You are on a continuous learning path. In fact, it is in the process of coaching that you learn the most.

People who want to be schoolteachers need to learn how to teach. If you’re going to be a success coach, doing your best won’t be enough. You need to learn how to coach. You need some skills.

If you start to coach without creating a foundation, you’re still likely to have success in the beginning. That success comes from your excitement, your energy, and your ability to transfer that excitement to others. Their lives will improve simply because they’re paying attention. Yet what happens when six months or a year passes by and all of a sudden the results drop off, and you don’t know why. It will be because you don’t have a system.

You won’t be an expert or an authority in every area you discuss. As a success coach, what you will do is help others find their own answers, silently companioning them. It’s not my job to tell my client what to do with his life, but it is my job to help him find out for himself what to do to take his life to the next level.

Do you want to be a good student? Then be a good coach.

Whether you think you want to be a coach or not, you should be. Enter into the business of coaching ‘ it will benefit your life; it will be the catalyst for you to step into greatness. When you learn to coach others, you become the best student of all. As you coach from within yourself, outside of yourself, you often come up with solutions for your own issues while helping others discover theirs.

As you go become a coach, you’ll learn to be flexible, and you’ll coach in areas that you may know nothing about. And that’s perfect because you don’t need to know content, you just need to know people. You’re an expert on people, because you are one! You are on the outside looking in. You have a perspective that your client doesn’t have.

A coach is the bridge between information and action. There is a difference between knowing and doing. Some people have the solutions to their problems, but lack the impetus to get going. Some have the solutions and aren’t aware. And some need guidance in discovering the answers they seek. But answers alone are not enough. Solutions without action result in the same outcome as not having the solution at all.

You, as the coach, believe more in your client than she believes in herself. You see her as perfect. You see the obstacles behind which lie her successes and you lead her around, over and through those obstacles.

You guide your client through the discovery process. You create a system of accountability to help the client take action on his discoveries.

Coaching is about being real. Dealing with what is, rather than what isn’t. Developing a bond of trust. It is about opening up to each other.

Coaching is also about knowing yourself. So much of coaching is based on instinct, and questions, and internal examination. If you’re not on a journey of self-examination, you’re not in tune with yourself, and you’re not congruent with what you’re asking of your clients.

You need to get real with yourself - know your strengths, and your challenges. Know your personality - how are you likely to act, to react, to choose to do work. Know your striving instincts to get work done. Know your skill base. Know your limitations, and where to get resources.

When clients are looking for a coach in their lives, a life coach, a success coach, they’re putting their dreams in your hands. They trust you with their lives, their hopes. It’s not something they choose lightly ‘ there is a lot at stake in giving you that trust. It’s not what they stand to lose that scares them. It’s what they stand to gain by choosing the right person to guide them.

You will create miracles. Miracles happen all the time, although we don’t always identify them in that way. You’ve heard stories about life-changing experiences. The help you give can change your client’s life. A miracle is a shift in perception. All you have to do is shift someone’s perception of the way she sees her life or the way she approaches certain things, and a miracle happens. One minute she’s literally going off the road; the next, you have picked her up, set her going in a new direction and her life is changed forever. And you will do it again and again.

Build Wealth!

Most people would agree that Tiger Woods is the best golfer in the world. Whether you follow golf or not, there is an important aspect to Tiger Wood’s success that often gets overlooked. He has at any one time three or four coaches.

Even with all his natural ability Tiger Woods understands that coaching, being held accountable by others, not only accelerates the process of his successful performance but creates a winning performance strategy.

His coaches include one for his swing, one for fitness and his caddy for guidance on the course. Whether you are looking for executive business coaching or business life coaching there is one goal….to coach success. Successful coaching understands where you are at now and helps you create pathways to upgrade your business and your life.

When determining whether or not coaching is for you there are some questions you may want to ask. Do I feel stuck? Do I feel overwhelmed? Am I on a treadmill where I can’t seem to get off? What’s keeping me from the results and life I desire? There are many more questions you may ask but this will give you some idea.

The next thing you must ask yourself is: Am I open to change? Many people think they are. But in reality they are looking a quick, temporary fix. Coaching is about change and hopefully having that change become permanent to prevent you from going back to the ways that didn’t work.

Be honest with yourself. Once you understand and take ownership that the key to change and the responsibility for change is yours, then your probability of co-creating a successful performance strategy increases.

You have now decided to find a coach. You have committed to learning new skills and disciplines. You have decided to carve out the time. But, how do you find the best one for you. Look for someone who has a background in your area, for example, maybe you are looking for small business growth and they have had a small business running successfully or several that have done well.

In this case you would want a small business coach who has the experience to grow small business. Now that you have found the person with the experience you need to see how you feel. That’s right….feel. Is the chemistry good? With the right experience and the wrong chemistry things will not work.

A business life coach or small business coach with the right experience is great. And to increase the odds of your success they will hold you accountable. Think about it. Tiger Woods’ success and improvement comes from his willingness to be held accountable by others. If you are serious about your success then you will be willing to held accountable by others the same as Tiger Woods.

Let us teach you how to be successful!

One of the essential qualities you need to heal from old, self-limiting beliefs is the permission to be unique and different. Give yourself permission to be the true you.

What truly inspires you and motivates you?

What is it you feel the most passionate about and what are you most driven by?

What is it that you’ve always wanted to do but maybe haven’t given yourself permission to do?

Yeah…all those. All those dreams you’ve disregarded because of the excuses you’ve fed yourself…”I’m too old.”…”I’m too young.”… “I don’t have enough money.”… “I don’t have enough training or education.”

So, instead of falling prey to these excuses, spend some time answering the three questions above…actually, spend as much as you need!

Sometimes, you’ll find where you feel uncomfortable, awkward, weird, anxious, and/or nervous is exactly the place you need to be to fully express your true self. This discomfort is merely you breaking through what you’ve become accustomed to and stretching yourself into new territory.

Sometimes, in fact, that’s the exact path you’ll need to follow to break through those old limitations.

This now brings you to your True Essence.

Whatever your spiritual beliefs may be, you were born in the image of The Divine. In other words, you were put here to be a reflection of The Divine for a very distinct purpose - to somehow serve humankind, and to live in your absolute and utmost greatness.

The only way to accomplish this, and reap all the prosperity your greatness will bring you, is to find, and walk, your unique path of passionate purpose and to fully utilize your natural gifts and talents. When you live your life using your gifts and talents with purpose and passion, you’ll find your calling in life in that same place…That’s the fullest expression of your Soul Print!

Another way of explaining this is: To Live true to your Highest Self.

Your Highest Self is spirit-driven by your personal truth, which is the sum of your values, priorities, likes, needs, purpose and vision. It is 100% you.

Your smaller self, on the other hand, is ego-driven and based in fear, desperation, and neediness. You’ll recognize this ego-driven smaller self by it’s characteristics of trying to always “be right”, always needing to explain and always trying to people-please.

When you’re in your Highest Self, you’ll always be looking for new avenues of growth, learning and discovery.

The question is: Do you want to break through those old limitations or do you want to be held captive by them…it’s up to you!

Wealth Builders!

Coaching has become the leading tool that successful people use to live extraordinary lives. However, most people consider coaches to be related to sports, yet sports coaches make up only a small fraction of all coaches. The majority of coaches today work with clients to identify what they want personally and professionally, and then support them in achieving a life that they really want and love. The new buzzword in the marketplace is “success coach”. If you have never considered a coach to enhance your business and personal life, then now is the time to get started.

Through weekly one on one coaching sessions, clients identify what is most important to them and align their thoughts, words and actions accordingly. Daily accountability for simple action items increases results exponentially. Having a life one loves starts with gaining clarity on values, enabling more meaningful choices and consistent actions. Coaching offers a tried and tested means for creating more balance, joy, energy, financial abundance, focus, and action in every area of your life.

Who Works with a Success Coach?

Entrepreneurs, business owners, leaders, sales professionals and people in transition are some of the people who typically work with a success coach. Regardless of their professional endeavors or place in life, clients have one thing in common: they are all successful, resourceful, and intelligent individuals who want to get even more out of their lives.

People hire a coach because they want more of something (money, time, happiness, success, freedom, etc) and/or less of something (frustration, tolerations, delays, regrets, etc). Thanks to the internet and web based teleconferencing, the best advice in the world can be shared from anywhere and at anytime. Another compelling reason people have for hiring a success coach: they are just unwilling to wait to get what they want. They now turn to an outside expert to help them get what they most want, in a healthier, more productive and sustainable way.

Successful professional athletes use coaching to win. Tiger Woods is one of the best, and yet he understands the value of having someone work directly with him, pointing out things he can’t see, encouraging and challenging him to achieve his greatest potential. Success coaching is like having a personal trainer for your life!

What will a success coach do for me?

First, a success coach encourages clients to set goals that they truly want to achieve. This typically includes both personal and business goals. Examples include wanting to work less hours, earn more profits, find the right employees, spend more time with the family, etc. Every client has their own specific and unique set of goals that they strive to achieve. The first step in the client-coach relationship is to identify these goals and then believe they are achievable.

Next, a success coach asks and expects their clients to do much more than they have ever done on their own. We all have TDD (time deficit disorder), but few of us realize that that a cure is available. The 80/20 principal states that 20% of our inputs generate 80% of our output. If you can identify the 20% of your daily tasks that generate 80% of your profit (income, revenue, etc) and then double your effort on those specific tasks, then you are well on the path to working less and earning more in your business.

Success coaches continuously help clients focus on specific issues and tasks in order to produce and achieve specific results. Success coaches don’t offer the “what to do”, they provide the “how to” by providing clients with the tools, support and structure to accomplish much more than they ever thought possible.

When you hire a coach, you are paying for an accountability partner, for information, advice, support, collaboration, strategies, continuous presence, energy, creativity, availability, not necessarily just time or the number of coaching sessions. You can get as much value from 15 minutes of coaching as you can from three hours of coaching; it all depends mostly on timing, openness, and synergy.

What should I look for in a success coach?

Success coaches want certain and specific things for their clients. Indicators that you have found a great success coach include someone that will help you have enough energy, happiness, money, wonderful relationships, joy, and feelings of success that get you easily through your days. Also, find one that will help you eliminate regrets and toleration of ineffective tasks and activities. Finally, search for someone that will hold you accountable while helping you create reserves in your life of everything including time, money, love, confidence, enjoyment, etc.

If you are searching for a success coach that specializes in business and entrepreneurial clients, you should seek someone that will help you get a clear financial and structural picture of where you’ve been, where you are currently, and where you want to go. Expect your business success coach to require a profitable business, operated with integrity, and that has the proper help to run the business efficiently and effectively. You will typically be expected to work “on” your business and not “in” it. A business success coach should want your business to succeed beyond your plans and to be more profitable than budgeted for while attracting customers without having to apply a great amount of effort. Finally, a business success coach should help you actually get pleasure from your business tasks and duties and have a great life too!

What should I do now?

If you truly want to maximize your efforts and your business success, it is time for you to consider the services of a professional success coach. The winners in business (and in life) don’t have to be ten times better than the competition; they only have to be a little better. Adding a dose of coaching to your life may be the prescription you need to take control of both your business and your life.

Eric Williams is the founder of the Get Ready to Win Network.

Are you considering a big change in your career? Do you feel let down, bored, burned out? Maybe you think there is something bigger and more meaningful that you are meant to do. Perhaps your company downsized you into this predicament. Regardless of the reason, there are some common mistakes to avoid while you evaluate and select new career options. Avoid these pitfalls and you can stay motivated, keep your balance and move forward successfully.

Mistake #1 – Making Decisions in Haste

Tempted to just quit and wing it? Everyone is now and then, but unless you just can’t stand your current situation another day, resist! Instead, write down everything you **** about your current situation, then one by one, look at the most intolerable issues and see how you can turn each around to make it more tolerable for the present moment.

It is easy to get so excited about the future that you decide to forge ahead without a plan and hope everything naturally falls your way after that. It will require more energy to sustain your new career and make it work well for you than it will to identify and start it. It is better to come from a place of higher energy and stability than to start out already burned out or worried about how you will pay the bills. Consider seeking the help of a qualified career coach, life coach or career counselor to help you identify your next career path. An objective, trained third party can help you strategize and phase it in for the best results and the least amount of heartache.

Mistake #2 – Ignoring the Finances

“I can’t stand this any longer! I would rather eat dog food than put up with this another day!” Whether you are pursuing a new career voluntarily or involuntarily, you must pay the bills. Do pursue your dream. Do look for the career that brings out the best in you. If you have plenty of savings, good for you! Resist the temptation to go through it and be left without. If you have a dream, by all means hang on to it! But if it won’t realistically get off the ground for three years, find another way to earn a living in the meantime. The need for income is a reality you cannot ignore.

Mistake #3 – Filling Your Head with Negative Stuff

What do you read? What do you view on television or the Internet? With whom do you spend free time? When you’re looking at making big life and career changes, you need lots of positive energy around you. If you spend time with negative people or fill your mind with anything that isn’t useful, guess what? It fills you with negative energy. Instead, surround yourself with people and things that give you positive energy and encouragement. Read books that motivate and encourage you. Go places that inspire you. Do everything you can to be what you want to be like after you land the next great career opportunity, and you will be more likely to attract it into your life!

Mistake #4 – Getting Bogged Down by Decisions

If you’re an intelligent person who has enjoyed any measure of success, chances are there are a lot of different choices you could make in your next big life or career change. Clients often tell me they are overwhelmed by all of the thoughts and ideas that keep running through their minds. And as the overwhelm sets in, it is very easy to just shut down. As we work together, I remind clients when making tough decisions to ask themselves, “Is this going to move me forward?” If the answer is yes, proceed. If the answer is no, either revise the decision or drop it entirely.

Mistake #5 - Not Having a Plan

There are two reasons this is important. First, life is unpredictable and it is dangerous to relinquish security before the next career arrangement is lined up. Second, changing careers is a lot like dating. You are always more desirable when you are unavailable. You are more attractive to a prospective employer if you are already working. And if you have already lost your job either voluntarily or involuntarily, it is even more important to have a plan so that you are then more likely to achieve it. If you see success, you will be successful. (Conversely, if you don’t have a plan, how will you know when you’ve succeeded?)

Mistake #6 - Ending your Preparation Too Soon

All I can say here is, prepare, prepare, prepare. If you’re looking at several possibilities, don’t immediately drop one when another looks good. Think about all of the big tests you have taken in life (college entrance exams, finals, certification exams) and how you prepared for those. Did you study way in advance and take a big, long break before taking the test? Or were you still reading the material as you walked in the door on test day, wondering if you could still be better prepared? When you’re embarking on a new career or life change, give it all of your available energy, skills and attention. If you have a goal in mind, resist relaxing when you think you almost have it. Prepare and stay sharp right up until the day you start. This will help keep you from losing confidence at the last minute.

Mistake #7 – Getting Discouraged Too Easily

Does this happen to you when you face hurdles in the midst of your goal? Instead of giving in to the pain, pay attention to what specifically is making you uncomfortable and make adjustments to get you through. For example, if you’re in career transition and you find that it is painful to go through the tedium of making phone calls, sending resumes, going on interviews where the competition is tough, etc., find the formula that gives you a break without stopping the process. Try devoting an hour or two each morning to these tasks and letting it go for the rest of the day, or only making a certain number of phone calls or interview appointments per week so that when you’re finished, you can feel good about giving yourself some time off. Don’t stop. Adjust.

Remember, a career change is a life change. You didn’t arrive at your current level of education and experience overnight, and don’t be disappointed if you don’t immediately uncover “the thing” you want to do next. Allow yourself time and space to explore and make an educated decision. Get the help you need along the way (i.e., career coach, career counselor) to help you do it strategically, not emotionally. If you avoid these mistakes you are much more likely to end up in a new career that complements and fulfills your life.

Let us teach you how to be successful!

Coaching means helping other people, usually the manager and the top management, in improving their proficiency and competence at carrying out certain tasks. While coaching might also involve teaching new things, this is always a minor part in the process. A coach usually never teaches a person, but only helps a person polish inherent skills, and improve productivity in various ways, and be exposed to new ideas. As such, the real goal of a coach would be to help a person improve his/her performance.

A coach is an expert who uses behavioral change tools and techniques to bring about a desired change. Coaches can be defined as resource people, rather than the more glamorous Experts or Gurus. Coaching is a specialized skill, and a powerful tool that can bring about radical changes in others, and the way they perform. Hence, like any other skill, coaching is a skill that needs continuous learning, re-learning, and practice to be used effectively. Some of the important rules of business coaching are-

Confidentiality and Expectations- There should be a clear understanding as to what would be shared with the boss, and what aspects of coaching or other personal aspects have to be kept confidential. Expectations should also be set right in the beginning, along with the goals. Coaches should clearly explain why these are profitable both for the individuals, as well as the organization. It makes sense to align the goals of coaching with the objectives of the organization.

Performance Observing- Performance of all the participants should be regularly monitored, and various needs of the performers should be determined. This could be in various areas like; knowledge about the task assigned, the skill applied in executing a particular task, the willingness towards completing a task, as well as the confidence level or any barrier that might be present, limiting the performance of any particular person.

Coaching- A successful coaching would entail execution of appropriate methods that would show improvement. This will involve giving relevant advice, coaching that would result in skill-building in a direct manner, producing a challenging environment to stimulate a person and formulating better tools that would ultimately remove the barriers in the performance of an individual.

Measuring the Result and Evaluating- All behavior should be compared to results, and this should be ultimately compared to the goals that are set. A target should always be sufficiently lowered or raised according to the ability of the performer, to sustain a challenging environment without stressing out any individual. A fine balance needs to be maintained here, as you never know when an individual might cross the Tipping Point, that might make him/her totally disinterested, as well as lead to the loss of important human resource.

When continuous improvement is desired, the process will need to be repeated. When you are coaching others, you should always state the success result that you want, or the criteria that will define success for you in a particular case. You should also make it a point to recognize every success, regardless of its importance or intensity, and when faced with a tumbling block, you are always expected to provide a solution, and should never indulge in criticism.

Create Success!
